The IGCT (Integrated Gate-Commutated Thyristor) is a fully controlled semiconductor switching device designed for high-power applications. With a voltage rating of up to 6.5 kV or even 8.5 kV and above, and the ability to handle high currents (thousands of amperes), it has become the core switching device in the medium- and high-voltage high-power sector.

      Applications of asymmetric IGCTs (AS-IGCTs), reverse-conducting IGCTs (RC-IGCTs), and reverse-barrier IGCTs (RB-IGCTs) include speed control of high-power motors in metallurgical rolling mills, mine hoists, and marine propulsion systems; high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission; flexible DC transmission; large-scale energy storage systems; offshore wind power grid integration; and as core components in traction converters for driving electric locomotives.
